MAURY AND GRANBY LEAD THE FIELD

It should come as no surprise that Maury and Granby dominated the voting for the All-Eastern District boys soccer team.

As voted by the coaches, Maury captured six first-team players and Granby five - leaving only one other spot on the first team. That was taken by Norview. The Commodores and Comets also managed three second-team spots each.

It was only fitting, as Maury went unbeaten in capturing a district title it lost three years ago to Granby.

Commodores senior defender Aaron Katrancha was voted the district player of the year and his coach - Mohsin Bouziane - was the coach of the year.

Katrancha's teammates on the first team are Aaron Neathery, Charles Read, Parker Consaul, Hank Morton and Chris Peters.

Comet first-teamers are Mark Denny, Kevin Meyer, Adam Smith, Philip Shea and Benji Flores. Norview's Chuck Barnes rounded out the first team.

Second-teamers for Maury are Evans Poston, Steve Randolph and Rob Secrest. Granby members are Joe Tumminelli, Jarrod Hauber and Bryan Knight. Booker T. put Gene Justice and Yoichi Miyake on the second team. Lake Taylor's representatives are Dan Hall and Chris Kriz. Norview put P.J. Platt and Willie Richards.

Katrancha made scoring on Maury a difficult task from his sweeper position. The four-year senior starter, who will attend Pitt in the fall, even managed to score four goals and dish out 10 assists. He was also named to the All-Eastern Region first team, as well as The Virginian-Pilot's All-Tidewater first team.

From his midfield position, Consaul ran the show as the field leader. The junior also scored four goals and had eight assists.

Also a junior, Morton was tied for the team's leading scorer honors with 12 goals from the midfield. A senior midfielder, Read chipped in three goals and six assists. A senior forward, Neatherly had five goals and three assists. Only a freshman, Peters also had 12 goals from his midfield position.

All-Tidewater selection Flores was the Comets' leading scorer. The sophomore had six goals and seven assists.

Second in scoring for Granby was Denny - a senior sweeper who pushed forward to spark the offense with five goals and six assists.

Meyer, a senior, chipped in two goals and had four assists.

A senior, Smith transferred in from Norview and saw time at all four defensive positions, while still managing to score three goals with three assists.

A junior, Shea had a great season in goal, allowing only 11 district goals. He had six shutouts.

A senior forward, Barnes sparked the Pilots with 11 goals and double-digit assists. ILLUSTRATION: ALL-EASTERN DISTRICT BOYS SOCCER
