Harry Lee Sawyer, of the 1900 block of Robert Hall Blvd., died June 23, 1996, in a Hampton, Va. Hospital.
Mr. Sawyer was born in Norfolk County, Va., and was a retired self-employed painter after 33 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Westmunden, Chesapeake, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was also a member of the Deacon Board and N.A.A.C.P.
Survivors include his wife, Inez M. Sawyer; six daughters, Beverly Blount, Barbara Trower, Inetha Wilson, Margaret Brown and Janet Elliott, all of Chesapeake, and Betty Jackson of New London, Conn.; two sons, James H. Sawyer and Andrew Sawyer of Chesapeake; a sister, Martha Godfrey of Richmond; a brother, William Sawyer of Chesapeake; 28 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and many other surviving relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted Saturday at noon by the Rev. Dr. John L. Ashby in First Baptist Church, Westmunden, Chesapeake. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. A family wake will be held in Fitchett Funeral Home on Friday from 7 to 8 p.m.
