SARAH F. PILAND

Sarah Velma Freeman Piland, 74, of the 2800 block of Greenwood Drive, died June 26, 1996, in her residence.

Mrs. Piland was born in Colerain, N.C., and was a retired floral designer from Portsmouth Floral. She was a member of Alexander Baptist Church, Portsmouth and Eastern Star. She was also a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include her husband, Raphael J. Piland; three daughters, Rachael Patchett and husband David of Smithfield, Va., Susan Goodwyn and husband David of Hampton, Va., and Peggy Holloman and husband J.E. of Harrellsville, N.C.; a son, Rueben Piland and wife Judy of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Sue LaSonde of Chesapeake; a brother, J.P. Freeman of Raleigh, N.C.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. John Burr in Alexander Baptist Church, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel is in charge. The family will be at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
