Alphonso Lee Candis Jr., 10, died June 25, 1996, in his grandfather's house due to a fire that destroyed the house.
Candis was a native of Smithfield. He was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church and its youth usher board. This year he passed to the fourth grade at Hardy Elementary School.
Survivors include his mother, Judy Wrenn Candis; father, Alphonso L. Candis Sr.; three sisters, Tamika Bailey, Kanitole Bailey and Victoria Candis; and a brother, Alrico Candis, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Wrenn, all of Smithfield.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist, Ivor, by the Rev. H.R. Maynor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be in the church at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The family will assemble at the funeral home noon Saturday. Pretlow and Chapman Funeral Home, Smithfield, is in charge.
