CHANGE IN WIND ENHANCES FISHING ALONG DARE COAST

Pier fishing for small fish improved along the Dare coast Wednesday, with a shift in the wind.

Kitty Hawk Pier reported good catches of spot and some speckled trout.

Bluefish, spot, croaker, flounder and a few speckled trout were landed during the morning on Avalon Pier. Spot, croaker and a few bluefish were taken in the afternoon.

Anglers on Nags Head Pier caught some small bottom fish, a few keeper speckled and gray trout and some decent flounder throughout the day.

Spot, sea mullet, some flounder, pigfish and scattered bluefish were landed from Jennette's Pier. The best action was in the afternoon.

Lots of spot, a few sea mullet and scatter bluefish were landed on Outer Banks Pier.

On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier reported good spot fishing all day Wednesday. Some tailor bluefish were landed in the morning.

Fishing was slow on Avon Pier because of rough seas and few anglers.

Lots of spot, a few bluefish, hogfish and sea mullet were landed from Frisco Pier.

Surf fishing along the northern beaches was slow because of sea conditions.

Some spot, croaker and sea mullet were landed from the catwalk on the south side of the Oregon Inlet bridge Wednesday, even though the strong running tide made fishing difficult.

Spot and other small bottom fish were beached early Wednesday by surfcasters from Rodanthe to Buxton, but action later in the day was slow because of gusty winds.

Some nice sea mullet and pompano were caught late Tuesday at Cape Point. Small blues were taken at the Cape Wednesday, and some sea mullet were landed along the south beach.

Spanish mackerel fishing was great late Tuesday afternoon in the surf at Hatteras Inlet. Action along the beach from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet was slow Wednesday.

Inshore trolling was good Wednesday around Oregon Inlet, with plenty of small bluefish landed.

Headboats in the area caught some croaker, sea mullet and plenty of flounder, most of which were released as they were under the legal size limit.

No boats went offshore from Hatteras or Oregon Inlet Wednesday because of northeast winds and rough seas.

The water temperature was 69.5 degrees Wednesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 79 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Inlet. by CNB
