It might not have the same fanfare as the upcoming summer Olympics in Atlanta, but the Virginia Beach Senior Olympics in the spring drew just as enthusiastic a response.
Held at the Great Neck Recreation Center over two days, the Senior Olympics hosted about 165 participants who competed in more than two dozen events. This was a preliminary to the state Senior Olympics held recently in Williamsburg.
IF YOU'D LIKE TO GET in shape this summer but are a little intimidated when you go to a gym or recreation center, Regina Lavelle has a healthy alternative.
Lavelle teaches a ``Full Life Fitness'' exercise class for the mature adult. It's a low impact class that also incorporates chair aerobics and is held Mondays and Thursdays from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. The cost is $3 per class or $25 for 10 classes. If you're over 50, however, Lavelle asks that you have a doctor's approval before starting the program.
The church is at 3900 Virginia Beach Blvd., at the corner of Lynn Shores. Call Lavelle at 467-3677. by CNB
