Regarding the postal workers' issues of mail delivery, as reported in the Pilot on June 19 and 20, I would like to share the following:
My father-in-law mailed a Father's Day card to me on June 10. So far nothing out of the ordinary, until you consider that the card was mailed from my Chesapeake address to my Chesapeake address and was not received until June 20 - 10 days to go from Chesapeake to Chesapeake.
I'm not so sure I understand what the ``real'' mail delivery issues are, but then I'm not so sure I care, considering I can get mail in the Indian Ocean (on an aircraft carrier), 6,000-plus miles away, in an average three to five days. The U.S. postal service deserves some credit, but, as I understand the process, their ``hands'' come off when FPO/APO mail clears the stateside Fleet Post Offices.
Bottom line: Users of the U.S. Postal Service expect, and deserve, their mail delivered expeditiously and professionally regardless of the issues between mail handlers and management.
