YOUNG WRITERS can meet publishers, get their work critiqued, and listen to real media and literary professionals.
The second annual Young Writers Workshop will be held July 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at WHRO studios in Norfolk. Young writers, ages 10 to 18, can get the scoop on writing careers, plus feedback from publishers about their writing.
But that's not all.
Guest speakers will talk about their experiences in writing. Don Roberts from WAVY-TV and Cheryl Wilkerson from WMYK-FM radio are among those who plan to speak to young pen pushers.
Two publishing companies will also be on site. Representatives from Harcourt Brace Jovanovich and Maya Publications, the host for the workshop, will critique student stories.
Young illustrators are not left out. For the first time the workshop will have a guest illustrator to demonstrate computer graphics.
``We want the students to see that writing is worthwhile and it's neccessary in today's world. It's also an opportunity to get their work published. We're looking for new talent,'' said Linda Goss, co-owner of Maya Publications.
Those who want to attend must register by July 5. Cost is $25. Contact Linda Goss at 625-2685. by CNB
