Vera Morris Hofler, 91, of Elizabeth City, N.C. (formerly of Sunbury, N.C.), died Thursday, June 27, 1996, in Albemarle Hospital.
She was a native of Norfolk and a member of the Damascus Christian Church and the V.F.W. (NU)7312 Auxiliary. She was the daughter of the late John Augustus Morris and the late Susie Brinkley Morris Craft and the widow of Arthur Van Hofler.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Kathryn Merritt and Thelma H. Shannonhouse, both of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Frances H. White of Virginia Beach; a son, Arthur Richard Hofler of Virginia Beach; a sister, the Rev. Brinkley Goranson of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Damascus Christian Church Cemetery at Sunbury by the Rev. Riddick Pearce and the Rev. Mrs. Brinkley Goranson. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one's favorite charity. Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, is in charge of arrangements.
