Home builders who helped construct a three-bedroom house for National Park Service workers will be honored at 11 a.m. today by Deputy Secretary of the Interior John Garamendi at the home site at Fort Raleigh.
Volunteer construction crews from the Outer Banks built the 1,450-square-foot house last year to replace an old mobile home at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site that Park Service rangers had been living in.
Two Cape Hatteras National Seashore employees are living in the Nags Head-style home.
In addition to Outer Banks crews, who were headed by Nags Head builder Carl Worsley, members of the North Carolina and National Home builders associations participated.
Electricians, plumbers, hardware store owners, shelving crews, window distributors, lighting outlet managers, cabinet makers, appliance suppliers and others contributed to the house.
