Petty Officer 1st Class Henry Elvin Wethington Sr., U.S. Navy (ret.), 71, of 26041 Hyder's Drive, died June 28, 1996, at his home.
Mr. Wethington was a native of Indianapolis, Ind., and was the son of the late William Protis and Floy Erton Wethington. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict, and had retired after 22 years service. Mr. Wethington was also a retired vocational teacher at the Southampton Correctional Center. He was a member of Sedley Baptist Church and the Southampton Coonhunters Association.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Wethington Dorn of Kailua, Hawaii; a son, Henry Elvin ``Hank'' Wethington Jr. of Franklin; two brothers, W. Earl Wethington of Indianapolis, and Chester L. Wethington of New Castle, Ind.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Leigh Wethington of Bainbridge, Ga., Scott Lee Thomason and Sara Ashley Thomason of Kailua, Hawaii.
A graveside funeral with full military honors will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Southampton Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Gary Powell officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggest that memorials be made to the Courtland Rescue Squad.
