The carrier Enterprise, at top left, pulled away from its pier

Friday at Norfolk Naval Station for the Mediterranean, its first

deployment in almost six years. Sailors watch from the railings as

tugboats help position the ship for departure. At top right, Kay

Norris, left, of Tarboro, N.C., waves goodbye to her son, Tracy,

along with her daughter-in-law, Jean Norris, center, and Jean's

sister, Shannon Ryan, 13. Jean Norris is six months pregnant. Above,

Newport News resident Melissa Burr holds her son, Bryan, 2 1/2, as

the crew prepares to leave the dock. Burr's husband, Shawn, is

aboard the Enterprise. by CNB
