Chesapeake radio station WFOS will play host Monday to JoAnn Falletta, internationally known conductor and musical director of the Virginia Symphony.
Falletta has recorded several national compact disc classical releases and is a champion of modern contemporary classical music and composers.
Falletta will be at the station from 10:30 until 11:45 a.m.
She will participate in a session with students of the station's summer broadcast school program. Falletta has been slated to discuss how symphony conductors and musical directors can make classical music concerts and music relevant to today's youth weaned on rock and roll and electronic sounds.
In addition, Falletta will also be asked about her search for modern classical music and composers and about her recent recording sessions held last winter in New Zealand.
Last February, she conducted a New Zealand orchestra in a program of music written by Hollywood film score composer Jerome Moross.
Dennis McCurdy, WFOS broadcast instructor and station manager, said the meeting between Falletta and his summer students is open to the public.
After the student session, Falletta will join McCurdy on the air for a live radio interview from 11:30 to 11:45 a.m. where she will talk about the upcoming Virginia Symphony Fourth of July concert to be held at the Virginia Beach Amphitheater Thursday.
