Peyote-Stitch Beadwork will be the topic of a crafts workshop at the Portsmouth Arts Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 12.
The workshop, organized by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, will be taught by Tamara Lee Jones, a professional jewelry maker. Jones' work has been displayed in a number of museums throughout the country, including the American Craft Museum in New York City.
The peyote stitch is an off-loom, woven bead technique of Native American origin that produces intricate, multicolored patterns. Students will design and make their own jewelry.
The class is open to students age 16 and older. The cost is $20 for museum members, $25 for nonmembers. The registration fee is due by July 4. Call 393-8393. by CNB
