The following information was provided by local authorities to help keep citizens informed of police activities in their areas.

CURRITUCK COUNTY

VIRGINIA YOUTH EXTRADITED: One of three people charged with robbing a Moyock grocery store at gunpoint has been extradited from Virginia.

A 17-year-old Chesapeake youth charged with second-degree kidnapping and armed robbery is being held at the Currituck County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail.

He was brought to the county June 18.

Two other Chesapeake residents - including a 16-year-old male and Dante Ashby, 32 - remain in Virginia facilities. Ashby also faces similar charges involving an armed robbery and rape at a South Battlefield Boulevard convenience store.

The three are accused of robbing the Eagle Market on April 4 - about three weeks after the Chesapeake robbery.

WOMEN CITED FOR UNLEASHED DOG: Two Currituck County women are among a growing number of residents being charged with violating the county's animal restraint ordinance.

Tammy Renee Smith Cooper, 20, of rural Moyock and her sister, Sherry Lynn Smith, 30, of Wedgewood Lakes were both charged with failing to restrain a large dog that had run loose in the area.

The mastiff normally was tied up in Cooper's yard but managed to get free from its leash at least twice.

The first time, an animal control officer warned the women to keep the dog restrained. When it got lose again June 15, the womenwere arrested and charged with the misdemeanor offense, said Susan Johnson of the Currituck County Sheriff's Department.

Cooper boarded the dog for her sister, who was charged as the animal's legal owner, Johnson said.

Late last year, county commissioners passed an ordinance to prevent annoying or dangerous pets from straying into others' properties. The law went into effect Jan. 1.

A county animal control officer said the number of warrants being filed against owners and boarders of wayward pets is increasing.

The maximum penalty for those convicted of violating the ordinance is 30 days in jail and a $500 fine.

KILL DEVIL HILLS

COOLER WITH JEWELRY LOST: A Playmate cooler containing about $11,000 worth of jewelry was accidentally left in the parking area at the beach access beside the Outer Banks Beach Club.

A child was carrying the cooler from the beach to a car for his mother and set it down in the parking lot beside the car.

The mother thought the cooler was inside the car and drove off. She returned when she discovered it missing, but by then the cooler was gone.

A cash reward is being offered for the safe return of the missing items. Anyone with information should call the Kill Devil Hills police at 480-4020.

WALLET, RING MISSING: A tourist's wallet containing $2,510 in cash and personal items was lost or stolen on June 13 in the office or parking lot of the Sea Ranch motel.

A diamond ring was among the belongings left behind or stolen, a Kill Devil Hills police spokesman said.

Anyone with information should contact the police at 480-4020.

CAR DAMAGED BY PARTY-GOERS: A motorist was barraged with water balloons and a beer bottle thrown during a party in the 1500 block of North Virginia Dare Trail.

No one has been arrested in the June 22 incident, which was reported at 9:20 p.m. No injuries were reported. The damage to the car was minimal - about $100, police said.

``It's not a real regular problem,'' said Lt. Bill Walker of the Kill Devil Hills Police Department. But, he added, motorists should pay attention for potentially dangerous situations.
