Claude Eugene ``Gene'' Garthright Sr., 64, died June 30, 1996, at Portsmouth General Hospital.
Gene was born in Portsmouth. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the Virginia A.B.C. Board.
He is survived by his mother, Evelyn G. Mann; stepfather, Larose M. Mann; a son, Claude E. Garthright Jr. of Portsmouth; daughters, Deborah Brown and Rebecca Richburg of Manning, S.C.; a sister, Patricia Wood of Suffolk. Gene has two grandchildren, Candace and Hunter Brown and several nieces and nephews.
He was a faithful member and head usher of Churchland Assembly of God, where services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. Pastor Larry O'Brien will conduct the services. The family will receive friends at the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, today from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Churchland Assembly of God Building Fund, 4209 Twin Pines Road, Portsmouth 23703.
