High praise to you for your outstanding coverage of the Elizabeth River Project during the launching June 20-21 of our Action Plan for cleaning up the Elizabeth River. Staff writers Scott Harper, Lawrence Maddry, Mary Reid Barrow, associate editor Glenn Allen Scott and editorial writer Pat Lackey worked in concert to provide a thoughtful, accurate and evocative exploration of both our home river's challenges and our plan for solving them.
Our community also deserves highest commendation. Diverse organizations and individuals too numerous to mention gave unstintingly of their time, their resources and, most important, their willingness to transcend differences in order to bring us to this moment.
Only a community with a deep sense of civic responsibility could have done as ours has, overcoming many conflicting interests to unite citizens, business, science, government and environmental groups in support of this ambitious cleanup.
