Walter Winslow Sr., 79, of the 800 block of Widgeon Road, died June 29, 1996, in DePaul Medical Center.
A native of Hertford, N.C., he was retired as a truck driver from Oak Dale Furniture Co. after 40 years. He was a member, deacon, trustee, treasurer and janitor of Bethel Baptist Church until his health failed. He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Coleay C. Winslow; a son, Walter Winslow Jr. of Norfolk; five stepchildren; two grandchildren, Jewel Winslow Mithell and Walter Winslow III; 10 stepgrandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, Tifany Winslow; a great-grandson, Walter Winslow IV; and a host of friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Bethel Baptist Church, 1234 Reservoir Ave., by the Rev. J.E. Arrington. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Hale Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday and will gather at 11 a.m. Saturday at Widgeon Road for the funeral procession to the church. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
