SHOTS FIRED AT OFFICER

Portsmouth police are asking for information on the attempted shooting of a police officer on June 28.

Shortly after 4 a.m., a police officer saw a dark blue, older model, two-door Mazda traveling in the area of Greenwood Drive and Garwood Avenue. The car stopped at the intersection and a passenger in the car motioned at the officer to come to the car, according to police.

As the officer started toward the car, shots were fired at the officer. The officer was not hurt.

Police followed the car from Greenwood Drive to Interstate 264 west. The chase ended on Interstate 664 near the Docklanding exit where police lost the car, police said.
