WASTEFUL

I felt guilty today as I tossed a newspaper and depleted 9-volt battery into the trash. Normally, I would save them for SPSA pickup, but Virginia Beach City Council has halted curbside recycling and conscripted me to haul my own recyclables to the nearest city dumpster.

I like helping my city and my world by recycling, but hauling trash in my car? Guess again, Bunky. I am willing to contribute the estimated $12 per household required annually to retain SPSA service; at least my money would be paying for a worthwhile city project.

Suddenly it occurs to me that I'm not the one who should feel guilty. City Council should hang its collective head in shame.
