Joseph Manuel Ruiz, 68, of the 3500 block of Dunedin Drive, died July 4, 1996, in his home.
Mr. Ruiz, a native of New York City, was retired from the Exxon Company as a merchant marine. He was a member of St. Therese's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his mother, Rafaela Ruiz; three daughters, Norma John of Chesapeake, Marie Banorras of New York City and Debra DePool of Fort Lee, N.J.; two sons, Ronald Ruiz and Joseph M. Ruiz Jr., both of Long Island, N.Y.; a sister, Haydee R. Davenport of Actworth, Ga.; a brother, Henry Ruiz of Virginia Beach; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Therese's Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Meadowbrook Mausoleum. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Therese's Catholic Church.
