Pier fishing was fair on the incoming tide Thursday morning, but very slow throughout the afternoon.
Tailor bluefish and sea mullet were landed all morning on Kitty Hawk Pier, but little action was reported later in the day.
Some bluefish, scattered sea mullet and a few keeper flounder were taken before noon on Avalon Pier. Afternoon fishing was slow.
Anglers on Nags Head Pier caught a few nice flounder during the morning, and some small bottom fish in the afternoon.
Jennette's Pier reported a slow day, with only a few small spot taken.
Fishing was slow all day on Outer Banks Pier. Anglers managed to land a few blues, several mullet and some baby flounder.
South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported good croaker fishing late Wednesday night. A few small bottom fish were landed Thursday.
Fishing was very slow on Avon Pier.
Frisco Pier reported a good run of Spanish mackerel and bluefish just before dark Wednesday. Some Spanish mackerel, bluefish and a 17-pound king mackerel were landed Thursday morning, and quite a few spot were caught Thursday afternoon.
Surf fishermen found croaker to be plentiful along the beach from Corolla to Oregon Inlet. Some spot and sea mullet also were landed.
Plenty of spot, croaker and sea bass were taken by anglers fishing from the catwalk on the south end of the Bonner Bridge across Oregon Inlet.
Spot, sea mullet and a few croaker were landed by surfcasters from Rodanthe to Buxton.
Some puppy drum were beached Wednesday night at Cape Point. Anglers landed quite a few spot and other assorted bottom fish at Cape Point on Thursday.
Good catches of Spanish mackerel were reported from the surf in the Hatteras Inlet area Wednesday evening. Thursday, spot and croaker were landed in the surf from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet.
Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was slow Thursday. Headboats caught a few croaker and pigfish on the morning trips, and a few flounder in the afternoon.
Dolphin were plentiful off Oregon Inlet Thursday. A few tuna and wahoo also were landed.
Fair numbers of billfish were released, including four white marlin by the Tuna Fever, three white marlin and a sailfish by the Carolinean, and three white marlin by the Pelican. The best action was between the 40280 and the 40530 Loran lines.
Excellent dolphin fishing was reported by blue-water anglers off Hatteras. Scattered wahoo and a few tuna also were taken by the Hatteras Fleet. A dozen white marlin were released. Most of the billfish action was between the 40200 and the 40230 Loran lines.
Bottom fishing should be good on the incoming tide along the Dare coast throughout the weekend.
The water temperature was 76 degrees Thursday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 75 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
