With reference to editorial writer Patrick Lackey's column (Perspectives, June 27) stating, ``Neither presidential candidate would make an ideal role model, let alone a hero'': I must say that Mr. Lackey is lacking in powers of observation if he has not yet been able to perceive that Mr. Dole is indeed a 24-karat hero, tried and proved as a hero in the crucible of World War II.
