HUGH M. MURPHY

Hugh Max Murphy, 74, of the 2600 block of Smithfield Road, died July 4, 1996 in a Portsmouth hospital.

Mr. Murphy, a native of Enoree, S.C., was retired from the U.S. Navy as a chief hospital corpsman after 30 years of service and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and Cradock D.A.V. Post 41. He was the widower of Alice Mary Murphy.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce A. Poe of Suffolk, Leeanne M. Poe of Portsmouth; two sons, Robert B. Murphy, and James Michael Murphy both of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Chris and Brandi Murphy, Ashley and Dustin Poe; four sisters, Betty Turner and Martha Farr both of South Carolina, Bobbie Shine and Louise Duncan, both of Georgia; and a brother John Murphy of North Carolina.

A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. James Dorson. Friends may join the family Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth.
