Irvin Barksdale Slayton Sr., 83, of the 5600 block of Tidewater Drive, died July 5, 1996, in a local hospital.
Mr. Slayton, a retired heating and air conditioning mechanic, worked at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth. He was a native of Sutherland, Va., and a member of Spurgeon Memorial Baptist Church, Norfolk. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, a member of Berkley Masonic Lodge (NU)167, and was past high priest of Ionic Royal Arch Chapter (NU)46.
Survivors include a son, Irvin B. ``Bud'' Slayton Jr. of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; a brother, Winfred Slayton of Sutherland; four granddaughters, Kristyan Slayton Beck of Richmond, Joyce Slayton Starke of Charlotte, N.C., Shayna Slayton and Tara Slayton, both of Melbourne Beach.
The funeral with Masonic Rites will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday by Dr. Paul C. Lawson in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. Friends may join the family at the funeral home for visitation today from 2 to 4 p.m.
