GEORGE P. HORNBAKE

George Sumner ``Pat'' Hornbake III, 81, of the 4800 block of Kempsville Greens Parkway, died July 5, in Virginia Beach hospital.

Mr. Hornbake was born on Saint Patrick's day in 1915 and was reared in California, Pa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora M. Hornbake. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Before retiring in 1980, he was the time keeper for the ILA Local 1624 at the Norfolk International Teminals, Inc. He was a member of the Catholic Church of the Ascension in Virginia Beach. Mr. Hornbake was also member of Thalia Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Tullock Hornbake; a daughter, Mary Lynne Spurgeon of Virginia Beach; a son, John Patrick ``Rusty'' Hornbake and his wife, Michele Hornbake and her children, Cato and Nicole McGee of Norfolk; a granddaughter, Juliana L. Spurgeon; and two grandsons, Van E. and Jay W. Spurgeon both of Virginia Beach.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 8, 1996, in the Laskin Road Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., by Father James E. Parke. Burial will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. The family suggests memorial gifts be sent to the Virginia Beach ``Oceanfront'' volunteer fire/rescue squad.
