George Sumner ``Pat'' Hornbake, III, 81, of the 4800 block of Kempsville Greens Parkway, died July 5, 1996, in a Virginia Beach hospital.
Mr. Hornbake was born on Saint Patrick's Day, 1915 and was reared in California, Pa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora M. Hornbake. Mr. Hornbake retired as the time keeper for Virginia International Terminals, Inc. in 1980. He was a navy veteran of World War II. He was an active parishioner of the Church of the Ascension and a member of Thalia Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Tullock Hornbake; a daughter, Mary Lynne Spurgeon of Virginia Beach; a son, John Patrick ``Rusty'' Hornbake, his wife, Michele Hornbake and her children, Cato and Nicole McGee of Norfolk; a granddaughter, Juliana L. Spurgeon and two grandsons, Van E. Spurgeon and Jay W. Spurgeon, all of Virginia Beach.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today in the Laskin Road Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., by Father James E. Parke. Burial will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today following the funeral at his daughter's residence, 901 Royal Cove Way, Virginia Beach. The family suggests memorial gifts be sent to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront Volunteer Fire/Rescue Squad.
