MARY OPAL BAKER

Mary Opal Powell Baker, 82, of the 1200 block of Parker Drive, died July 6, 1996 in Parson's Residential Care Center in Chesapeake.

A native of Nansemond County, she was the daughter of the late John Arthur Powell and Mary Florence Glancy Powell. Mrs. Baker was a member of Suffolk Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, S.A. Baker; two daughters, Rosemond Anita Laine of Kitty Hawk, N.C., and Gail Lorraine Taylor of Suffolk; two sisters, Eugenia Manos and Frances Johnson of Suffolk; four granddaughters, Susannah Broegler, Jessica Broegler, Holly Saunders of Suffolk and Liza Facenda of Portsmouth; two grandsons, James Laine of Charleston, W.Va., and Stephen Laine of Chesapeake; four great-grandsons; four nephews; and a niece.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Holly Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Thomas H. Britton. The family will receive friends at the home of Gail Baker Taylor, 4333 Ainslie Court North, Suffolk. Memorial donations may be made to the Suffolk Christian Church. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
