VICTIM'S RIGHTS

Columnist Joanne Jacobs states that most victims' rights are already protected by state and local laws (Perspectives, July 4).

In the same edition we learned that in a Norfolk court a judge and defense attorney have seemingly allowed the most basic human rights of a victim to be ignored (``Family gives up claim to Jones' body,'' MetroNews). It would appear that unless the victim's family has lots of money, the victim's body can be at the mercy of the person accused of killing her. I think Megan Jones should have the most basic right of all - the right to a decent burial. Perhaps this right should be included in a victim's rights amendment, and then no judge or attorney could ignore it.
