Ruth Johnson Starke, 76, of the 18100 block of Elm Ave., died July 8, 1996, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Starke was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and was the daughter of the late Badger and Annie Griffin Johnson. She was the widow of Stuart McGuire Starke. She had retired as a teller at Sovran Bank in Capron and was a former Avon representative. She had been a member of Capron United Methodist Church for 70 years. Mrs. Starke was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Franklin Christian Women's Club, the Sunshine Club of Capron and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Capron Volunteer Fire Department.
She is survived by three sons, Stanley M. Starke and his wife, Nell, of Chesapeake, James S. ``Bubba'' Starke and his wife, Deborah, of Capron, and Wesley J. Starke and his wife, Cynthia, of Radford; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Capron United Methodist Church with the Revs. Lowell Stovall, David Willis and Durward Vaughan officiating. Burial will be in the Capron Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorials be made to Capron United Methodist Church or the Capron Volunteer Rescue Squad.
