Walter Leon ``Snooky'' Wescott, 58, of the 900 block of Tennyson Lane, died July 8, 1996, in DePaul Medical Center.
Mr. Wescott was a native of Eastville, Va., and the son of Beadie Wescott Hunter and the late Richard Wescott. He was retired owner and operator of Snooky's Soul Food Restaurant on Church St. He had also worked at Riddick Funeral Service for several years. Snooky was very active in athletics and was an original member of the old Carolina Five basketball team.
Survivors include two daughters, JoAnn Graham and Debbie Coleman, both of Norfolk; five sons, Larry Wilkerson of Norfolk, Melvin Wilkerson of Virginia Beach, William Bridges, Micheal Bridges, Dominque Bridges, all of Norfolk; his mother, Beadie Wescott Hunter; his stepfather, Benford Hunter; a sister, Dorothy Wescott Graham of Chesapeake; two brothers, James Wescott of Baltimore, Md., Wayne Wescott of New York; an uncle, Quincy Moore of Chesapeake; two aunts, Gertrud Wescott and Edna Wescott, both of New Jersey; nine grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lolita Wescott of Baltimore; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Friday by Dr. I. Joseph Williams in Antioch Baptist Church, Norfolk. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends at Riddick Funeral Service from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Friday.
