Alma Beatrice Matthews, of the 2200 block of Courtney Ave., died July 8, 1996, in Norfolk Health Care.
Mrs. Matthews, the widow of Ernest L. Matthews Sr., was a homemaker. She was a native of Norfolk and a member of Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church. She was a member of the Ballard-Fepperson Sunday school class and a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Ethel L. Payton, Evelyn T. Wright, Ernestine P. Matthews, and Eunice L. Lewis; six sons, Ernest L. Matthews Jr., Robert A. Matthews, Joseph M. Matthews, Edward L. Matthews, James O. Matthews, Jackie B. Matthews; 34 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Charles L. Matthews.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Michelle Johnson in Bank Street Baptist Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The remains will be ready for viewing Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. The family will assemble at the residence at 10 a.m. for the procession. Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home is in charge.
