James Clarence Early, 93, of the 600 block of N. Curtis St., died July 9, 1996, in Roanoke Chowan Hospital.
Mr. Early was born in Bertie County and was a member of Ahoskie First Baptist Church. He was a retired peanut buyer and a former magistrate for Hertford County. He was the widower of Elizabeth Ruffin Early.
Survivors include two brothers, Carlton Early of Portsmouth, A.J. Early of Ahoskie; two sisters, Rosaleigh Marsh of Suffolk, Doris Cowan of Ahoskie; a sister-in-law, Mary Katherine Early of Ahoskie; and 21 nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Ahoskie Cemetery by Dr. Jesse J. Croom. The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and will assemble at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
