THOMAS J. TURNER JR.

Thomas J. Turner Jr., 58, of the 100 block of Staley Drive, died July 8, 1996.

Mr. Thomas retired from VDOT as a welder after 27 1/2 years and then began working as a custodian for the Norfolk School Board in the SECEP facilities in Suffolk in 1992. He was a native of Southampton County, Va., and a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He served as a trustee and was a member of the William J. Glover Sunday school class. Mr. Turner was an Army veteran. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas J. Turner Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie Greene Turner; his mother and stepfather, Dorothy B. and William Ashley Ellis of Suffolk; three daughters, Anita T. Langston of Suffolk, Deborah T. Beale of Franklin, and Charlene H. Turner of Suffolk; five sisters, Vivian T. Griggs of Suffolk, Evelyn T. Whitehead of Carrsville, Ann E. Tew of Suffolk, Brenda E. Boyce of Suffolk, and Wanda E. Silcott of Smithfield; a brother, David Turner of Suffolk; three grandchildren, Amber E. Beale, Sara M. Beale and J. Aaron Langston.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday by the Revs. T.A. Powell and Arthur McGahan in Liberty Baptist Church. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in Sidney Harrell Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and other times in the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Liberty Baptist Church Building Fund, 2601 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk, Va. 23434.
