6 VIRGINIANS FACE CHARGES IN KILL DEVIL HILLS AUTO BREAK-IN

Six Virginians, including four juveniles, have been arrested and charged in connection with an auto break-in in this beach community.

Police say the individuals may have been involved in 12 to 15 similar incidents in a Kill Devil Hills neighborhood.

Donald Ray Andrade, 20, of Suffolk, and Robert Woodard, 19, of Chesapeake, made their initial appearance in Dare County District Court Tuesday.

Andrade was charged with felony larceny, felony breaking and entering of an automobile, misdemeanor forgery and passing bad checks.

Woodard was charged with felony larceny, felony breaking and entering and misdemeanor larceny.

Three 16-year-old girls and a 16-year-old boy, all from Chesapeake, were charged with misdemeanor possession of stolen goods.

Kill Devil Hills Detective Todd Iverson said the suspects left a paper trail for officers to follow.

``We received a call that between 1:30 and 9:30 a.m. on July 7, a 1987 Ford Mustang was stolen,'' Iverson said. ``Two hours later, the vehicle was recovered, and we discovered that a checkbook that had been in the vehicle was stolen. Later we received a call that three males and three females were passing the checks that had been stolen from the vehicle.''

The suspects purchased about $800 worth of merchandise with the checks, police said. Police have recovered $2,000 worth of stolen goods, much of it taken from unlocked cars.

The merchandise included skateboards, sunglasses, clothing, compact discs and other items. Police said items were taken from vehicles or purchased with the stolen checks.

The suspects were arrested about 4:30 Sunday afternoon, Iverson said. Andrade and Woodard were linked to the Mustang theft.

Iverson said the other auto break-ins occurred during the same time period Sunday in a five-block area between Airstrip Road and Martin Street.

``We're investigating the possibility that they could be involved with the other break-ins,'' Iverson said.
