A Norfolk man was arrested Tuesday and accused of setting fire to a house in the 2500 block of Tidewater Drive, Jack Goldhorn, fire and paramedical department spokesman, said.
Fire personnel received a call about 12:26 p.m. of a man threatening to burn down the house. When the first rescue unit arrived, they found smoke and called for backup.
Arrested at the scene was Edgar Oliver, 36, who lived in the house. Goldhorn said Oliver has a history of mental illness and was charged with arson. Fire officials said he is related to the homeowner and is being held in the Norfolk City Jail. Damage to the property ranged from $15,000 to $20,000.
