Cox Communications has given the Norfolk Public Library system 22 Pentium computers to assist in efforts to improve patrons' access to the Internet. City officials are setting aside $40,000 of the $89,000 necessary for wiring, telecommunications, computer peripherals, operating software and additional support staff. The funding will allow the library to create the infrastructure necessary to connect the computers to the Internet and eventually to a network of CD-ROM reference sources at Norfolk's main library, Kirn Memorial. The library has submitted a grant request to the State Library asking for the remaining funds needed to get the computers up and running. Each branch will receive at least one computer with the remaining used to upgrade the current general reference computer center at the main library and the computer lab at the Blyden Branch. The computers and printers are expected to be available to the public by September. by CNB
