Joseph A. Glass

NORFOLK - Lt. Joseph Anthony Glass, U.S. Navy retired, 88, of the 100 block of Dupre Ave., died in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, July 9, 1996.

He was born in Sandfordtown, Ky., and was the son of the late Philip A. and Catherine Piller Glass. Mr. Glass was the loving husband of Marjorie E. Lawrence Glass for 40 years. He was retired from the Navy where he achieved the rank of lieutenant. After his retirement from the Navy, Mr. Glass worked for the Newport Shipping and Dry-dock until he retired. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Father Kealy Council, Fleet Reserve Association Branch (NU)60, life member of the Non Commissioned Officers Association and the Democratic Club.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Phyllis A. Rawls of Norfolk, Karen R. Smith and her husband, John Smith of Norfolk, Catherine E. Shadwick and her husband, Floyd ``Shad'' Shadwick of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Rosetta Heinrick of Covington, Ky.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.

A mass of the resurrection for Lt. Joseph Anthony Glass will be held today at 7:30 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ron Naylor officiating. The Fleet Reserve Branch (NU)60 funeral ritual will be accorded at 7 p.m. at the church. The family will receive friends at the church from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The family also asked that memorial donations be made to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church Restoration Fund, 175 W. Government Ave., Norfolk, Va. Entombment services will be held in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday with full military honors accorded at the mausoleum. Altmeyer Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
