Evelyn Vernett Satterfield of the 300 block of W. 31st St. died July 8, 1996, in her residence.
Born in Portsmouth, she was a domestic and a housewife. She was the widow of Horace Satterfield and a member of Monticello Baptist Church.
She is survived by eight daughters, Carolyn Short of Jacksonville, Fla., Beverly Sykes, Alfreida Mangum, Vancine Johnson, Cynthia Killion, Marsha Hill and Flora Jones, all of Norfolk, and Francine Griffin of Chesapeake; three sons, Chester Hill of Minnesota, Alfrad Hill of Hampton and William Hill of Norfolk; 26 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday by the Rev. James Williams in Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home, Norfolk, is in charge. The remains will be ready for viewing Friday at 3 p.m. The remains will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. The family will assemble at the residence at 11 a.m.
