Walter ``Pig'' Ballard III, 37, of the 3900 block of Pierce Lane, died July 7, 1996.
Born in Portsmouth, he was a welder for Newport News Shipyard. He served in the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Alisa T. Ballard of Portsmouth; a daughter, Whitney L. Ballard; a son, Walter L. Ballard of Portsmouth; mother, Queenie Mae Ballard of Portsmouth; father, Walter Ballard Jr. and stepmother, Evelyn J. Ballard, both of Chesapeake; a sister, Lillian A. Porter of Portsmouth; three brothers, Walter Griffin of Dallas, Texas, Reginald A. Ballard of Laurel, Md., Kevin S. Ballard of Chesapeake; in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Turner of Portsmouth; sister-in-law, Lawanda Turner of Portsmouth; a brother-in-law, Rev. Marcus E. Turner of Laurel, Md.; a special aunt, Beulah Bowman of Portsmouth; and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday by the Rev. Thomas M. Steele in New First Baptist Church, Taylorsville. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery on Peninsula Avenue, Portsmouth. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Friday. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The family will receive friends at 192 Wilson Parkway, Portsmouth. Family and friends will assemble at Serenity Funeral Home at 11:15 a.m. for the procession to the church.
