Carl Edward Long Sr., 62, of the 3000 block of Old N.C. Highway 13, died July 8, 1996, in Vancor Rehabilitation, Greensboro, N.C.
Born in Bluefield, W.Va., he was a Baptist and a chef for the International Union Operating Engineers. He was a navy veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Whitehurst Long; daughter, Deborah Saul of Ashboro, N.C.; three sons, Carl E. Long Jr., Brian K. Long, and Christopher M. Long of Ashboro, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today by the Rev. John Keane in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk. Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk, Chesapeake, is in charge.
