Woodrow Wilson High School Principal Lindell Wallace resigned last Friday.
A 32-year veteran of the Portsmouth district, Wallace is the finalist for a central office job in Virginia Beach.
At its meeting next week, the Virginia Beach School Board will consider his prospective employment as assistant superintendent for middle school education.
A Portsmouth district spokesman said Tuesday that Portsmouth would appoint a new Wilson principal soon.
Wallace could not be reached for comment. Monday was his last day at Wilson.
Some have speculated that Wallace, one of the city's most popular principals, left the Portsmouth district because he didn't want to move into a job as ``planning principal'' of the new I.C. Norcom High, scheduled to open next year.
Generally speaking, planning principals handle administrative and other duties associated with the opening of a new school or center; they then take over as regular principals once a given school or center opens.
District spokesman Joseph L. Wiggins said rumors about the administration wanting to move Wallace from Wilson were unsubstantiated. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
