PASS ON SAVINGS TO CONSUMERS

Now that Virginia Beach has decided to buy 1.86 million gallons of water a day extra from Norfolk and save $700,000 a year in the process, how about expanding water usage for Virginia Beach residents? The water restrictions now in effect are based on an older agreement to buy 30 million gallons a day with a penalty charged for any amounts exceeding 30 million gallons per day.

Now that Norfolk has conveniently found this new water and has dropped the penalty charge for excessive amounts, isn't it time to cut Virginia Beach residents a break?

Virginia Beach officials may dispute the study that found the additional water, but they can't dispute the fact that they are receiving these additional amounts of water and saving money as well. However, if this is not enough extra water to relax current water-use restrictions, how about passing on the savings in dollars to Beach water customers?
