MARY L. LESTER

Mary Alice Lineberry Lester, 71, of the 5500 block of Elam Ave., died July 10, 1996, at Norfolk General Hospital.

She was born in Greensboro, N.C., on March 9, 1925, the daughter of the late Ralph W. and Addie Holloway Lineberry. Mrs. Lester was the widow of William Thomas Lester Sr. She was a member of Gateway Freewill Baptist Church, where she was secretary for eight years. She loved gardening, crafts and most of all her time spent with family and friends.

She is survived by three sons, Larry R. Whitehead and his wife, Barbara J. Whitehead, of Woodbridge, Va., Kirk J. Lester of Moyock, N.C., and William Thomas Lester Jr. and his wife, Sandra D. Lester, of Charlotte Courthouse, Va.; a daughter, Deborah L. Brackett and her husband, Thomas William Brackett, of Moyock; a brother, Ralph W. Lineberry Jr. and his wife, Nina Lineberry, of Chesapeake; a sister, Lillian Ewell of Norfolk; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Gateway Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. Dale Burden. Burial will be in Hampton National Cemetery on Monday at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church starting at 9:30 a.m. until the funeral. Altmeyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
