J. Harvell Bailey, 82, a resident of Ivor, died Thursday, July 11, 1996, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk.
Mr. Bailey was born in Surry County and was the son of the late Joseph Henry and Mabel Harvell Bailey. He was a member of Ivor United Methodist Church. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. from 1933 to 1934 and was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Epps Bailey; two daughters, Judith B. Brabrand of Gloucester, Marilyn B. Oliver of Smithfield; two sisters, Helen B. Griffin, Laura B. Newsome, both of Suffolk; a brother, G. Cary Bailey of Grottoes; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, Saturday at 4 p.m. by the Rev. Randy Duncan. Burial will be in Rocky Hock United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wakefield. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, Smithfield, Va. 23430 or to the Ivor United Methodist Church, c/o Mary Nannie Powell, Ivor, Va. 23866.
