Although seas were rough and winds were gusty late Thursday and during the day Friday, a few anglers braved the elements and caught some fish from ocean piers along the northern beaches.
Kitty Hawk Pier and Avalon Pier reported quite a few Spanish mackerel and bluefish landed late Thursday. Most of the fish were taken from the end of the piers on jiggers.
A few anglers caught some bluefish and gray trout from Kitty Hawk Pier on Friday morning.
Avalon Pier anglers caught Spanish mackerel and bluefish on jiggers before rain squalls ran the fishermen off the pier.
A few small bluefish, speckled trout and gray trout were landed from Nags Head Pier.
Rough seas kept surf fishermen off the beaches, and charter craft in port.
The water temperature was 74 degrees Friday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck. by CNB
