HURRICANE BERTHA: LIST OF CLOSINGS AND CANCELLATIONS

The approach Friday of Hurricane Bertha has caused many postponements and cancellations for this weekend. This is not a complete list because many decisions had not been made as of Friday night. Our advice: Check before you go.

ENTERTAINMENT

Judy Collins/Don McLean concert scheduled for tonight at Town Point Park, Norfolk, has been rescheduled to next Saturday. For more information, call 441-2345. The Smithereens show originally planned for Friday has been rescheduled, from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Town Point Park. Call 441-2345.

A Christian music show scheduled for tonight at the CBN Ministry Tent has been relocated. The show, featuring The Imperials, will be at 7:30 tonight at Kempsville Presbyterian Church, 805 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach. The gospel show scheduled for Friday featuring The Nelsons, The MaGruders, JD Sumner and the Stamps and Jerry Goff, has been rescheduled to Sept. 22. Call 579-2365.

SPORTS

Friday evening's Tides baseball game was postponed to Sunday, as part of double header beginning at 6:15 p.m. Tonight's game and concert were still on as of Friday evening. For the latest information today, call the Tides at 622-2222.

Virginia Beach Challenge Volleyball Tournament scheduled today at 5th Street on the beach has been postponed. The National Kidney Foundation of Virginia will reschedule the event. Call 498-5052.

National Adult Baseball Association All-Star Game and Gala Picnic scheduled for today at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, has been rescheduled for next Saturday. Call 481-9511.

MISCELLANEOUS

All six Chesapeake community centers were to close Friday evening and remain closed until noon today. All athletic programs in the city also have been canceled for today, and Northwest River Park will be closed until Sunday. Public libraries are scheduled to open at noon today.

The Buccaneer Bash, a pirate-themed event boaters at Waterside this weekend, has been postponed. It will probably be rescheduled for early August. Call 627-3300.

The 10th anniversary celebration and opening reception for ``Action Heroes and Not: From Classic to Pop Icon'' at the d'Art Center in Norfolk that was scheduled for Friday will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Call 625-4211.

All events and campuses of Old Dominion University are closed today.
