FOR SAFER STREETS

In these times, when children are committing heinous crimes and everyone is saying that there are no safe neighborhoods, our solution seems to be spending more and more on crime programs; yet the problem just gets worse and worse.

The bottom line is really very simple. Instead of our police force waiting to catch that guy going 5 mph over the speed limit or that grandmother with an expired tag, policemen should turn off the air conditioner in the police car, roll down the windows and ride slowly through our neighborhoods. They should get to know the citizens and their neighborhoods again so that they can prevent crime before it happens.

It's a solution that no one is going to write a book about or make a movie about, but it will make our neighborhoods safer.
