TRIM HERE

I recently read that the Navy has eliminated the need for a fire-retardant dungaree uniform.

A senator raised the issue that this will harm the manufacturers, so our elected officials decided that the Navy will continue to purchase this material (even now that it doesn't need it for the uniforms).

How many of us are going to buy something we don't need? This sounds like a ``welfare'' program to me!

Why should the government use our tax dollars to support companies just because they no longer can sell their goods to the government? They should practice capitalism and try to market their wares to other customers. Isn't that what other businesses do that don't do business with the government?

If our elected officials want to trim unnecessary money from the budget, they should look at all of these little ``projects'' that function only to keep money flowing into someone's pocket.

We complain about these people in office, but vote them back in!
