LITTLE LEAGUE ALL-STAR TOURNAMENTS WIND DOWN

Weather permitting, the District 6 Little League all-star baseball and softball tournaments will conclude this week.

Wilson gained a berth in the final of the 9-10 baseball tournament, sweeping through the winners bracket in the double-elimination competition.

Wilson defeated Cavalier Manor, Bennetts Creek American and Churchland. In the winners bracket final, Wilson topped Churchland, 8-3, Wednesday.

The champion will advance to the state tournament in Reston.

The Major baseball (11-12) champion will play here in the state tournament at Olive Branch beginning July 26.

Cavalier Manor and Churchland were scheduled to play Thursday in the final of the winners bracket. Wilson and Bennetts Creek National were the only other survivors in the losers bracket, also scheduled to meet Thursday.

In the Junior (13) tourney, Bennetts Creek and Wilson were slated to play in the winners bracket final Friday.

Rain caused a one-day delay in this tournament. The winner will move into state play at Hampton.

The Senior (14-15) champ will advance to the state meet at Pound. Cradock has gained one of the finals berths, sweeping through the winners bracket. Cradock beat Cavalier Manor and Charles Peete.

In softball in the 9-10 tournament, Western Branch and Bennetts Creek were scheduled to meet Thursday in the final of the winners bracket. That loser will oppose the winner of the Olive Branch-Wilson game for the other final berth.

Olive Branch and Western Branch moved to the final of the winners bracket in the Major tourney. The Bennetts Creek-Cradock winner will play the Olive Branch-Western Branch loser for the other berth in the final.

Both the 9-10 and Major champions will move into state play at Richmond.

In Senior softball, Western Branch and Bennetts Creek gained the winners bracket final and were scheduled to meet Thursday. The loser will play the Cavalier Manor-Olive Branch winner for the losers bracket crown.
